New Site Design and Upcoming Reviews
By: Sverre Sjøthun, January 27, 2002  Print this article

I am very pleased to present to you the new and improved site design. We have tried our best to make a fast, easy to read and intuitive site with a new features, and others to come. In addition, we'll be putting up some reviews pretty soon. Read on to learn more about the upgrade and the upcoming reviews.

The new design

As you can see, we have done some tweaking on the design; different color scheme, new logo and a little bit different navigation. But the biggest change is not what's visual to the readers, but rather what's in the back-end. We have, during the last few months, developed our own back-end system for uploading articles, images and other administrative tasks. The result is that it makes our job much easier -- we don't have to mess around with FTP upload or static HTML, cause it's all done through our back-end application.

The back-end application is written in PHP and JavaScript, and is running off a mySQL database. In addition, I have hard-coded the whole site from ground up in XHTML 1.0, which is the successor to the well known and widely used HTML 4.01 format. Our biggest challenge when revamping the site was the fact that the old site looked rather poor in other browsers besides Internet Explorer. With the new code, the site looks more or less the same in both Internet Explorer 5.X, Opera 5.X and even NetScape 6.X. For those of you that are not familiar with web-development, I can tell you this: NetScape is very hard to work with some times, and there were times when I was about to go crazy. If you are still using older browser versions than the above mentioned, I would highly recommend that you upgrade your browser as we use certain CSS elements that are not supported by older browsers.

But we finally made it, and I must say that I'm very pleased with both the tweaked design and more importantly, our spanking new back-end application. We will, of course, keep improving the application and implement new features, like a polling system and hopefully a system/user-database where you can have your own page on the site -- it will let you upload pics of your computer, system-specs, personal bio and much more.

Finally I would like to ask you to report any broken links, images, or bugs you might find. During the beta-testing, we have fixed a lot of stuff, and it should be ok by now, but you never know. If we have missed something, please let us know by email at

Upcoming reviews

Like I had mentioned earlier, we'll be getting some watercoolers from different companies. Each of these will be tested separately, and when all of them are tested, we will post a round-up to show you how they stack up against each other.

The coolers in question are from:

- OverclockersHideout
- Swiftech
- DangerDen
- Cool Computers

I have already gotten the first parts from DangerDen, but as they didn't have their SuperCube in stock at the time, I haven't started testing it yet. I got a confirmation from DangerDen last week that the missing part, the radiator, has been shipped about two weeks ago, but it seems like it's stuck somewhere(most likely in the Norwegian Customs -- we all know how efficient they are). All the other companies will hopefully ship their kits in the not so distant future.
